With just one month to go until we kick off Abertoir 2018, and as we work hard to finalise our amazing line-up for films, we thought we’d mark the day with a few more teases of what we’ve got in store this year!
We’re thrilled to reveal two more of our Welsh premieres, two titles we think are showcasing some very exciting horror filmmaking – we’ll be screening the latest film from Peter Strickland, In Fabric, and the Hindi horror smash, Tumbbad, from first time director Rahi Anil Barve. In Fabric weaves a tale of a haunted dress as it passes from person to person from the department store where it originates, all the while dripping in Strickland’s trademark style. Tumbbad is a cautionary horror fable that boasts layers of story and striking production design – we’re almost certain you won’t have seen a film like this before!
Regular attendees know we always have a bit of Vincent Price at the festival, and this year we’re very pleased to welcome duo Animat to the festival with their live soundtracking to The Last Man on Earth, which features a mixture of their own original brand of dub-inspired downtempo and an eclectic selection of tracks from the archive. The 1964 film sees Vincent Price take the lead in Richard Matheson’s classic post-apocalyptic story, and offer one of his most memorable, melancholy roles.
We’ve already got you excited with news of our very special guest of honour, Sean S. Cunningham, and we’ve got one more film up our sleeve to celebrate his presence at the festival – and it’s none other than the brutal The Last House on the Left, produced by Sean and of course directed by Wes Craven. It’s one we’ve wanted to show for a while now, so we’re thrilled to have such a perfect occasion to do so!
We’re not done with the slashers, either – we’re pleased to reveal that not only will we be screening the iconic Prom Night, but we’ll be hosting our very own, (bloody) Valentine’s themed prom night! A chance to relax after all that non-stop horror, bring your glad-rags or your cosplays and DJ Dellamorte will serenade you with the best era-appropriate pop and disco - and some surprises too!
It won’t be long now until we unveil the full schedule but we hope for the time being that we’ve whet your appetite enough to keep you going…! There are still a handful of festival passes available so be sure to grab on while you can!
