We’re pleased to announce that festival passes for Abertoir 2018 are now on sale! For just £60, join us at Camp Abertoir for our 13th edition, and celebrate six days of brand new preview screenings, classic films, guests, talks and special events!
Read on for the first announcements from our programme, and please remember that passes are limited in availability, so don’t wait too long! We’re also offering a goody bag full of prizes up to the value of the pass to one lucky camper drawn at random from everyone who buys a pass within the first 13 days of them going on sale - so don’t hesitate to get yours!
As previously announced, we’re delighted that our guest of honour this year will be Sean S Cunningham, director and producer of Friday the 13th, who will be joining us for an in-depth conversation about his career with Stephen Thrower, as well as an exclusive filmmaking masterclass.
But what of the actual films?! It’s about time we teased you with just a glimpse at some of the films you can expect at the festival. The first films we can confirm from our line-up of exciting pre-release titles are…
…the terrific Japanese horror-comedy One Cut of the Dead, a creative and clever riff on low-budget movie making which has been a huge impact in Japan over the summer, will no doubt be a favourite at the festival. Do not miss this sensational film!
…the engrossing and terrifying psychological thriller Cam, a brazenly original look at identity, following an adult performer who starts to find her videos taking on a life of their own. Co-created by former cam girl Isa Mazzei, Cam is one of the year’s most startling debuts.
…the darkly delightful Abrakadabra, the latest exercise in style, excess and giallo homage from The Onetti Brothers (Francesca, Sonno Profondo). We’re proud to be hosting the UK Premiere of these talented brothers’ latest work!
…the nostalgic treat Summer of ’84, the latest film from RKSS (Turbo Kid), which blends Stranger Things and The ‘Burbs to create an irresistible mystery that follows a group of friends who suspect their neighbour is a serial killer.
Of course, we’ve also promised you a bounty of slashers! We’re not showing our full hand just yet, but we’ve put together a programme of classics that show off the genre in all its glory. We journey from the slice ‘n’ dice campsite antics of Sleepaway Camp and Friday the 13th, via the extra big drill-bit of Slumber Party Massacre and a brief excursion to Europe for Jess Franco’s Bloody Moon before ending up underground for the brilliant My Bloody Valentine, showing in an extra-gory uncut extended version!
This only scratches the surface of what we’ll be offering! Stay tuned for more updates, and in the meantime you can call the Aberystwyth Arts Centre on 01970 623232, or drop by in person to secure your festival pass. The festival takes place 13-18th November, and we look forward to you joining us at Camp Abertoir!
