We’re pleased to have the chance to screen two short films, The Wyrm of Bwlch Pen Barras and The Sin-Eater, out-of-competition, celebrating upcoming Welsh horror. The filmmakers will be taking part in a panel Q&A session after the screening.

The Wyrm of Bwlch Pen Barras

(Craig Williams, UK 2023, 17 mins)

One winter’s morning in the quiet town of Rhuthun, North Wales, three men are called upon once again to carry out a terrible assignment on the neighbouring mountain pass – the Bwlch Pen Barras…

This short folk horror film has some impressive credentials for a debut: shot on film, Welsh megastar Bryn Fon in the lead role, two Super Furry Animals scoring, and edited by Peter Strickland regular Mátyás Fekete.

The Sin-Eater

(Kelly Holmes, UK 2023, 17 mins)

1852, Wales: a desperate young mother carries out a forbidden ritual to save the soul of her unbaptised dead baby, but is tricked into taking on a terrifying supernatural burden.

A thoroughly Welsh gothic horror film, The Sin-Eater stars prolific Welsh legend Sharon Morgan as well as up-and-coming Carly-Sophia Davies, who can also be seen in a truly scene-stealing role in Joanna Hogg’s upcoming Eternal Daughter.
