We’re pleased to announce that we’ve joined forces with another of Wales’ great film festivals, Cardiff Animation Festival, for a special event at their 2026 festival, There Be Monsters!
On Saturday April 25, see The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms (Eugène Lourié, USA 1953), a landmark monster movie showcasing the genius of Ray Harryhausen, who used stop-motion and split-screen effects to bring the titular ‘beast’ to life.
Those of you who attended Abertoir in 2025 will remember Professor Stacey Abbott’s excellent and insightful overview of the gothic in film and we’re really happy that Stacey will also join us in Cardiff to present an illustrated talk on the pivotal role that animation has played in the horror genre.
Tickets and passes for this year’s CAF – 23-26 April – are on sale now, and be sure to check out the rest of the jam-packed programme!
