We’re excited to reveal another special double-bill at Aberystwyth Arts Centre – Danger Diabolik and The Fox!
Seem like an odd combination? Well, if you’ve ever been to Abertoir you’ll know that sometimes we play fast and loose with the confines of genre! And so in honour of that we’ve put together this double-bill from two directors we love: Mario Bava and Dario Russo.
Danger Diabolik is a Eurospy classic, with Bava’s distinctive visual style and technical ingenuity bringing the iconic Italian comic spectacularly to life. If you joined us last year and enjoyed Reflections in a Dead Diamond, here’s the blue print! Danger Diabolik screens in a beautiful restoration thanks to Cinema Rediscovered, the film will also feature a video introduction by Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead), thanks to Cinema Rediscovered.
And speaking of spies…long-time Abertoir attendees will remember our great love of Australian TV-series Danger 5, to the point where we even welcomed its co-creator Dario Russo twice to Aberystwyth. Fast forward more years than we’d care to count, and we’re presenting a special preview screening of his debut feature film, madcap dramedy The Fox. Featuring the voices of Olivia Colman and the late, great Sam Neill, The Fox is far removed from Danger 5 but retains its hallmark irreverence and just a touch of its bad taste too.
To make the screening extra special we’ll even be screening a classic Dario Russo and David Ashby short film, and be sharing a very special video introduction from Dario himself.
The double-bill is just £10 and starts 6pm, December 4th. Tickets are on sale now!
