It’s not just films at Abertoir – and this year we’re really getting our claws into our natural horror theme!
This year is the 50th anniversary of James Herbert’s The Rats, the book that kick-started a slew of animal horror paperback fiction. To celebrate this, we’ll be exhibiting a collection of most of these original paperbacks: dog-eared, worn and very much loved.
With that, who else to welcome back to Abertoir than Robin Ince, who’ll be running us through some of the most iconic, bizarre, influential and infamous animal-themed pulp horror novels that have been let loose ever since. Regulars already know how much he, and we, love Crabs, so we know we’re in for a treat!
Authors John and Kate Probert will be regaling us with a journey through killer animal films, complete with props, and Abertoir veteran Gavin Baddeley will do his best devilish David Attenborough impersonation for his talk on Occult Zoology.
Bringing a bit of science into our usual fiction, we’re also looking forward to hearing from Aberystwyth University’s very own Prof. Joanne Hamilton, who’ll be delving into the icky and terrifying world of parasites. Get ready to squirm in your seats!
We’ve also got filmmaker Q&As and a couple more special events to squeeze in – and keep your eyes peeled for more film announcements very soon!
