Based on a novel by Yutaka Maekawa, Creepy follows ex-police detective and criminal psychologist Takakura, who moves to a quiet suburban town seeking peace and quiet. Yet as his wife tries to become more friendly and fit in, he slowly begins to suspect that there’s something not quite right about their new neighbour.
A film that truly lives up to its title, Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s return to the genre demonstrates his immense skill as a director, as seemingly mundane goings on take on an air of true dread – and that’s before things start to go really wrong. Featuring some phenomenal performances, particularly Teruyuki Kagawa as Mr. Nishino, Creepy is a film that’ll linger long after it ends.
