Shu-Wei Lin (Deng Yu-kai) is a grade-A nerd who’s constantly the subject of intense bullying from his classmates. When he gets in trouble with his unsympathetic teacher, Shu-Wei is assigned to community service with three of his bullies. While sneaking around the dilapidated care home they’re meant to be working in, they make the frightening discovery of two flesh-eating monsters, one older and one younger, and manage to capture the little one. So begins a cruel and gripping cycle of torture as the bullied becomes the bully, while the remaining creature embarks on a relentless pursuit.

A wickedly nihilistic film that tackles that age-old existential dilemma – who are the monsters, really? Incompetent adults do nothing to help an enraged generation of young people and the high-school experience becomes literally hell on Earth for protagonist Shu-Wei, while his bullies enjoy the ride into oblivion. Featuring stand-out performances and set-pieces, Mon Mon Mon Monsters is one of the freshest – and darkest – films you’ll see this year.
