A group of young people take a trip to the ruins of Epecuén in order to film a documentary about the fateful events that obliterated this Argentinean town from the map in the Eighties. Ignoring all the warnings, they get stranded in the abandoned village. Contrary to what they thought, they begin to realize that they are not alone in this desolate place.

The Onetti Brothers (Francesca) are back with another cinematic love-letter, this time to the American back-water ordeal cinema of the 1970s. Wearing its love for the likes of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and The Hills Have Eyes on its sleeve, the film also throws in a gleefully modern sense of grime and gore. By subverting certain tropes and offering a wonderful local angle, What the Waters Left Behind is a brilliantly realised homage.
