Busi, a destitute young woman crippled by suppressed emotions, is desperate to live on her own terms. Taking on a new job, she has to save the life of a young girl in a world marked by abuse, in a battle where she must first find the courage to face an insatiable demon wrought in her own childhood.
The Tokoloshe is one of several excellent genre films to emerge from South Africa this year and it’s a pleasure to bring it to the Abertoir audience. The film draws on Zulu mythology and contemporary South Africa to paint an eerie picture of one woman’s haunting (and haunted) experience.
