Lord Edward Whitman (Vincent Price) is a cruel magistrate who embarks on a personal vendetta against the local young women he believes to be witches.
Cry of the Banshee is not only a perfect excuse to show Vincent Price, in Witchfinder General mode, giving a deliciously evil performance, but also a nice chance to see Gordon Hessler’s original cut of the movie. Chopped up, rearranged, censored and rescored by AIP, the film changed significantly when released.
This version however, with its original music and nudity reinstated, also contains the original title sequence, animated by Monty Python’s Terry Gilliam in what is surely the most unexpected credit sequence of the entire festival. Look out for a guest appearance by the beloved Welsh legend, Hugh Griffith…!
