For its 50th anniversary, we’re absolutely delighted to be screening (for the first time in the UK) this brand new restoration of Tombs of the Blind Dead. Painstakingly created from a new high-definition scan of the original 35mm camera negative, it took Synapse Films over a year perfecting it and breathing new life into this much loved cult classic.
After a group of tourists discover an abandoned monastery, they awaken the 13th century corpses of the Knights Templar, who rise to seek their revenge for their brutal slaughter centuries earlier.
The Blind Dead are one of Spanish horror’s most memorable cult creations: skeletal crusaders riding their horses in haunting slow motion across the landscape, delivering death to anyone in their path. And you really have to admire them: they may be painfully slow skeleton monks, but they never fail to catch their prey. That takes dedication.
